The fourth book in Shinn's Twelve Houses series, Reader and Raelynx brought me back to one of my favorite subjects: the portrait. While I always love creating ambitious multi-figure compositions, there's something about the challenge of a single figure that always delights me. With the other three books in this series portraits as well, it was fun trying to keep the theme going and yet refresh it with Reader. A dynamic pose, a more graphic background and the addition of the 'flying' lynx make this piece stand out. I also enjoy finding places to add a little visual rhyming in the painting, such as the lichen mimicking the lynx's spots, to create cohesiveness between foreground and background.
