The U.S. space program, with its passionate focus on finding life beyond Earth, has fascinated millions of star gazers. Recent data from outer-planet surveys suggest that our greatest chances for discovering extra-terrestrial life may not lie with distant stars and systems but be within our own solar system - our galactic backyard, as it were. The Moons of Jupiter, in particular Europa, show evidence of liquid water and potential oceans residing beneath their frozen crusts. We wait on terra firma for word from our emissaries, voyaging unencumbered from our earthly moors.
