Recently I have been fascinated with the meeting place of earth and sea. The shoreline is a place where voyages begin and end and may also present a place of extreme danger, as the tsunami in Japan has all too tragically brought into focus. The sea is a place of immense, incomprehensible depth. I have awarded it great respect ever since as a young child I experienced its power crashing into the rocky shore of Maine's Acadia National Park. Yet with all it's fury, we are drawn to the shore, a deep inner yearning calling us to return to the primal birthplace of us all.
